Blake Shinn to appeal careless riding ban

Saturday 26 May 2018, 6:16pm

Blake Shinn will appeal his latest careless riding suspension in a bid to be able to ride on Stradbroke Handicap Day at Doomben.

Racing NSW stewards imposed a six-meeting ban that includes a focal point of the Queensland winter carnival on June 9.

Shinn was found guilty of permitting his mount I Thought So to shift out and cause To Excess and Jay Ford to check at the 700m mark of The Man Shake Handicap (1100m).

Shinn argued he made the move because he heard a call from Aaron Bullock, who was in a potentially vulnerable position on Dal Cielo.

"I relieved a bit of pressure on my inside for Aaron Bullock," he said.

"Maybe I should have reacted differently and been more conscious to my outside but the thing going through my mind was the position that Aaron was in and the manners of his horse.

"I was only trying to help a fellow rider who appeared to be in some difficulty."

The suspension begins on June 3 and Shinn will be able to resume riding on June 14.
