The show rolls on for Weir at the Valley

Thursday 31 May 2018, 5:02pm

Leading trainer Darren Weir doesn't get a lot of down time with the large number of horses in his care.

After racking up a double at Geelong on Tuesday to take his season tally to 405 wins, Weir has had a couple of "quiet days" by his standards.

He didn't have a runner at either Sale on Wednesday or Pakenham on Thursday and has only one at Geelong on Friday.

He will then have 32 runners spread across four venues on Saturday.

"We've had plenty of runners so I'm glad to have it a little quiet for a few days," Weir said.

"But you've still got to work and feed them every day whether you're racing them or not racing them.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to the races."

Weir has Iconoclasm aiming for a fourth straight win when he runs in the Dominant 60 Years Handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Iconoclasm has won his past three starts at Flemington, twice over 1400m and once over 1600m, the same trip as Saturday's race.

Weir and connections thought about a trip to Brisbane but have decided to run on Saturday before giving the horse a short break.

"It's good money on Saturday and then he can have a little break," Weir said.

"We'll get him back for the spring for races like the Sir Rupert Clarke and the Toorak Handicap.

"He looks a nice horse going forward for those races."

Camdus, a winner at the corresponding meeting last year, runs in the WT Partnership Handicap.

He won first-up from a long break at Morphettville on May 12 and Weir said he had returned in great order.

"We were going to run him in the Golden Topaz at Swan Hill but this looks a better option," Weir said.

"He comes in pretty nicely with the claim."
