Destiny's Kiss entered for Stayers Cup

Monday 4 June 2018, 5:42pm

Trainer Joe Pride has taken insurance against veteran Destiny's Kiss getting a higher than desired Brisbane Cup weight by entering the last-start McKell Cup winner at Randwick.

If Destiny's Kiss remains at home he will run over 3200 metres in the Stayers Cup, a race he won four years ago on a heavy track.

Saturday's long-distance race is a quality handicap with a top weight of 61kg while Pride is concerned Destiny's Kiss will be disadvantaged at Group Two level in Brisbane.

Destiny's Kiss has won 18 of his 83 starts, 13 of those victories on soft or heavy ground.

He has raced over 3200m twice for his 2014 Stayers Cup win and seventh in the 2016 Group One Sydney Cup won by Gallante.

Brisbane Cup weights will be released on Tuesday.

Destiny's Kiss is the highest rated at 108 of the 12 entries for the Stayers Cup with the Kris Lees-trained Doukhan next on 83.

A former French horse, Doukhan was brought to Australia by Australian Bloodstock but the nine-year-old's career has been restricted by injury.

He has won three races here and at his most recent start was a creditable fifth over 3200m in the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington.
