Rising Red out of Group Two Brisbane Cup

Thursday 7 June 2018, 12:51pm

Rising Red has been ruled out of the Group Two Brisbane Cup.

Busuttin Racing announced on Twitter on Thursday the last-start Premier's Cup winner had heat in one of his joints following a track gallop on Tuesday and was out of Saturday's 2200m race.

"Connections are disappointed not to be running but the horse's welfare comes first," Busuttin Racing said.

Last year's New Zealand Derby runner-up returned to racing earlier this year after a year off the scene through injury.

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained four-year-old raced five times this preparation and was placed in the Group Three JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick and Group Three Chairman's Handicap (2000m) at Doomben before winning the Group Three Premier's Cup (2200m).

Rising Red's scratching leaves a field of nine for the Brisbane Cup (2200m).

Japanese import Ambitious was the $2.80 favourite on Thursday.
