Solzhenitsyn out of Group One Doomben Cup

Thursday 9 May 2013, 11:51am

A bad week for Robert Heathcote got worse when the trainer missed a first acceptance payment deadline for Saturday week's Doomben Cup with Solzhenitsyn.

Faced with the prospect of having to pay a $22,000 late nomination fee for Solzhenitsyn to run in the Group One race, Heathcote has decided the Toorak Handicap winner will instead run in the Lord Mayor's Cup on the same day.

Heathcote will then freshen Solzhenitsyn and aim him at the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 8 with Michael Rodd booked for the ride.

Solzhenitsyn failed in last Saturday's Group Two Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast when he finished seventh to Lights Of Heaven.

On Monday Heathcote was fined $500 by Racing Queensland stewards for conduct prejudicial to the image of racing for comments directed at jockey Larry Cassidy on his blog.

Heathcote was furious with the stewards ruling because he says he devotes a large amount of time from his business to fulfil media requests for interviews which be believes promotes the racing industry.

As a result of being fined he has closed his blog and placed a media ban on himself.

Patinack Farm also missed the payment deadline with Hollindale Stakes placegetter Transporter and have yet to decide whether to pay the late nomination fee.
