Good 'n' Fast out to shine in second start

Friday 22 June 2018, 5:17pm

After an eye-catching debut from Good 'n' Fast, co-trainer Tom Dabernig is looking forward to seeing what the colt can produce when he steps out again at Flemington.

Good 'n' Fast, a half-brother to the Lindsay Park stable's multiple Group One placegetter Fast 'n' Rocking, made his debut at Flemington two weeks ago, closing strongly behind the Brent Stanley-trained The August.

He steps from 1100m to 1400m in Saturday's Gippsland Region Handicap for two-year-olds and Dabernig's gut feel is the colt should prove hard to beat with natural improvement from his first race.

"He was excellent on debut," Dabernig said.

"He actually had a wind operation early on so when they've had a wind operation you like to see what they do under race pressure.

"But he hit the line full of running and a couple of strides after the post he was well in front.

"He's a little bit different to Fast 'n' Rocking. He's a big striding, lengthy horse and that's why we've gone up to the 1400 metres.

"On his run the other day, you would expect that around Flemington over 1400 should be the right race."

Good 'n' Fast was on the second line of betting at $3.80 on race eve with the Ciaron Maher-trained last-start Ballarat winner Star Fall the $3.10 favourite.

Dabernig said the colt seemed to have trained on nicely.

"If the race is run to suit and he's naturally improved a little bit, he should be hard to beat," he said.

Saturday's race is a heat of the Taj Rossi Series for two-year-olds and, depending on his performance, Good 'n' Fast could progress to the Listed final over 1600m two weeks later.
