A sparkling raceday gallop at Doomben has confirmed a trip south for Better Than Ready to contest the Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Better Than Ready was a scene-stealer between races on Saturday when he produced a spectacular gallop under Ric McMahon, working from the 800m to run his last 600m in 34.66 seconds.
His splits of 22.37 (400m) and 10.55 (200m) impressed McMahon and trainer Kelly Schweida who immediately gave the green light for the colt to contest Saturday's Listed race in Sydney.
"I didn't have to be told the times he ran to know how quickly he was going underneath me," McMahon said.
"He felt enormous and he did it easily without any pressure at all.
"That will top him off nicely before he goes to Sydney and I'm sure he'll acquit himself well down there."
Better Than Ready was accompanied in his workout by stablemate Flying Jet, who has been in career best form this campaign, but he left the mare trailing in his wake as he powered to the line several lengths clear.
Schweida originally intended keeping Better Than Ready in Brisbane but has elected to start the colt in the Crowley, believing an interstate trip will enhance his physical and mental development.
The three-year-old is the winner of three of his five starts so far over 1000 to 1110 metres with a third and fourth over the 1200 metres of the Crowley.
