Much-travelled gelding Brilliant Jet can earn a trip to Sydney if he completes a big six months for trainer Aiden Nunn at Doomben.

Nunn is from Longford in northern Tasmania but travels up the mainland east coast each year for the polo circuit.

He is regarded as one of the best polo players in Australia and rides for some of the biggest teams.

Nunn always takes one or two racehorses with him each year and has had plenty of success.

"The polo season closes down in the winter months in the south so we move north. I probably only spend three to four months a year at home these days," Nunn said.

"I have 17 polo horses with me and two racehorses. Brilliant Jet had no luck first up this time here at Ipswich and then won at Grafton during their carnival."

Brilliant Jet has already won in four states and Nunn is quietly confident about him in the Open Handicap (2200m) on Saturday.

"He drops sharply in weights on his last-start win and he is getting right into his campaign now. He has won at Moonee Valley and Kilmore in Victoria, Grafton in NSW and at the Gold Coast as well as in Tasmania, " Nunn said.

"I can't see much for him up here after Saturday so if he goes well we might drop in to Sydney on the way home. There is a staying race there every Saturday."

Brilliant Jet will eventually make his way back to Tasmania where he is again likely to run in the Hobart and Launceston Cups.

"He had no luck in either this year and they look the likely targets again," Nunn said.

Brilliant Jet won the $100,000 Devonport Cup in January only a few days after Nunn's wife Sara gave birth to their first child.

"He's seven months old now and things have changed a bit but we are really enjoying parenthood," he said.

Sara Nunn part-owns Brilliant Jet who has won seven races and nearly $180,000 prize money.

Taylor Marshall will claim two kilos on Brilliant Jet meaning he will drop 7 kg on his last start Grafton win over 2200m.
