Meticulous planning, the right horses and a little bit of luck are the key passages in the Chris Waller training manual.

As proof it is working, Sydney's premier trainer produced his first five-timer at Rosehill on Saturday including Moriarty in the Listed Lord Mayors Cup.

For good measure he added a Group Three winner in Brisbane and another winner at Kembla Grange.

Hawkspur won the Rough Habit Plate at Eagle Farm to take another step towards a possible Queensland Derby start while Moriarty is also bound for the north with the Group Two Brisbane Cup his target.

After New Zealand mare Zonza ($21) jumped well, Jay Ford took her to the front and she stuck on tenaciously but had no answer to Moriarty's final sprint at the end of the 2000 metres.

Moriarty beat her by 1-1/4 lengths with Strike The Stars leading the rest, another 2-1/4 lengths away.

Waller said the Group Two Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) on June 1 would be Moriarty's next start, a week before the Group Two Brisbane CUp (2400m).

"It's been a good day," Waller said.

"I didn't expect much going in because we had a lot of first-up horses.

"The first win was a bonus and everything flowed from there.

"It's the first time I've trained five in one day at one track. It shows if you prepare for everything, anything can happen."

Among the winners was Index Linked, winner of the 1500m benchmark 75.

Waller said his win was an example of the systems in place now he has a satellite stable in Melbourne to counteract the need to run his horses against each other in Sydney.

"He won a race at Sandown and I had him in again on Wednesday but he drew wide," he said.

"I was able to put him on the float and bring him back here.

"It shows the systems we have in place are working."

Index Linked and Moriarty are part of the former European contingent that makes up a big part of Waller's stable.

His other winners at Rosehill were Richie's Bickies, one of the team Waller trains for the Ingham family, Oompa Loompa and Disciple.

The winner of the past two Sydney premierships, Waller ended his day on 137-1/2 winners for the season which has more than two months remaining.

He is assured of setting a new standard with the record held jointly by the late TJ Smith who trained 156 winners in 1975/76 and his daughter Gai Waterhouse who reached that number in 2002/03.
