Nominations extended for the GN Hurdle

Tuesday 31 July 2018, 5:39pm

Nominations have been held open for the Grand National Hurdle at Sandown after 12 horses were entered for the 4200m-race.

Unbeaten in three runs over hurdles, Self Sense is the headline act for Sunday's $250,000 race.

Following a hurdle win at Warrnambool on July 8, Self Sense carried top weight to win over 2400m on the flat at Caulfield last Saturday.

The Darren Weir-trained Bit Of A Lad will be out to extend his winning streak over jumps to four after victories at Casterton, Warrnambool and Bendigo.

Other nominations include Lindsay Park stablemates Dane Hussler and Honey Steel's Gold, Patrick Payne's pair of Sir Lopez and Zentangle and Cougar Express for Jarrod McLean.

A total of 17 horses have been entered for the benchmark 120 hurdle over 3400m while the other feature jumps race, the Crisp Steeplechase (3900m) has 15 entries, headlined by Wells.

Abebe and Valediction, both entered in the Grand National, are also nominated in the Crisp Steeplechase.

Nominations for the Grand National have been extended until 10am on Wednesday with weights due later in the afternoon.
