Australia's two best hurdlers will be in action this weekend, but only one of them will be going over the jumps.
Black And Bent, the 2011 Grand National winner and the country's acknowledged star hurdler, will have his first jumps run in 12 months in Sunday's Jack Dow Hurdle at Mornington.
Trainer Robert Smerdon has also nominated both Black and Bent and his rising jumps star Brungle Cry for Saturday's Andrew Ramsden Stakes (3200m) on the flat at Flemington.
But only Brungle Cry, who has won over hurdles and on the flat in his past three starts, will run.
"Brungle Cry has a chance to win a $300,000 bonus over the jumps so I'll keep him for the races in that series," Smerdon said.
The bonus is available to any horse who can win three jumps races from a list that includes the Galleywood Hurdle at Warrnambool, the Australian Hurdle and the Grand National, both of which are run at Sandown.
Brungle Cry won the Galleywood two weeks ago.
Black And Bent hasn't had a jumps run since winning the Galleywood at last year's Warrnambool meeting and has been readied for Sunday's outing by four barrier trials and four races, all on the flat.
Black And Bent and Brungle Cry have won the past two Grand Nationals with the former set to pass the $1 million prizemoney landmark this season.
