Son of Eavesdropper all the talk
A 2-year-old son of Eavesdropper (USA) is all the talk in the racing community south of Sydney. The aptly-named Got The Goss is now two-from-two after posting an impressive debut win in an open-age Maiden Plate (1000m) at Canberra followed by an equally emphatic success in a 2YO Handicap (1200m) at Wagga.
Got The Goss was sent to post a raging odds-on favourite for his second race engagement and never gave his supporters any cause for concern. Quickly into stride in the Wagga event before dictating the race, the Trevor McIlrick-trained youngster dashed away from his rivals at the top of the straight and still held a clear advantage at the winning post.
Got The Goss is one of five individual 2-year-old winners for Eavesdropper from just 10 first-crop starters in Australia. Other winners for the sire-son of Kingmambo include the $100,000 Inglis Autumn Gold Plate winner Bold Eavey, as well as Anasheed, Downton Abbey and Rodel.
Of Eavesdropper’s five other starters still to win a race, Vivid has been a minor placegetter at each of her only two starts, and Dropper Crystal placed third in the very first juvenile event of the 2012/13 NSW 2-year-old racing season.
The latest success of Got The Goss gave the Eavesdropper breed its seventh success in Australia. Combined, the Emirates Park stallion’s first 2-year-olds have only faced the starter on 32 occasions and boast a 21 percent winning strike-rate.
