Dunlop ponders next route for Red Cadeaux

Tuesday 21 May 2013, 11:31am

Trainer Ed Dunlop will wait to see how Red Cadeaux returns from his international exploits before mapping out a plan for his globetrotting runner.

The seven-year-old finished eighth in the Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji on Sunday, supplementing a fine third in the two-mile Tenno Sho in Japan on his previous start.

Dropping back to 2000m in Singapore, Red Cadeaux never looked like replicating his fine second in the Dubai World Cup as Hong Kong raider Military Attack ran out a comfortable winner over his stablemate Dan Excel.

Dunlop felt the Kranji ground and the race distance ultimately counted again his charge.

"Basically it rained four days before the race and dried up so the ground was too quick for him, as was the race," he said.

"I think the both the winner and the runner up are exceptional horses and he is really a mile-and-a-half horse. I think we perhaps got a bit carried away with his Dubai run on Tapeta which is a totally different surface.

"As Gerald Mosse said, it all just happened a bit too fast for him."

Red Cadeaux is entered in both the Prince of Wales's Stakes and the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot but Dunlop will assess his condition before making plans.

"He comes home in the next few days and he is entered up at Royal Ascot but we will just see how he is when he gets back," said the Newmarket handler.
