Oliver cleared after Flemington mishap

Wednesday 26 September 2018, 3:10pm

Champion jockey Damien Oliver has been cleared of serious injury following a barrier mishap at Flemington.

Oliver underwent X-rays and an MRI at Melbourne's Epworth Hospital after being jammed against a metal partition in the barrier stalls on Wednesday.

He was assisted back to the medical room after Thousand Wishes played up as the field was about to be dispatched before the Rose Of May Handicap.

A Victorian Jockeys Association statement said Oliver's MRI had revealed no fracture, but severe bruising to his left leg.

Oliver was stood down from his remaining rides on Wednesday and will need a medical clearance to ride at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

He had five rides at the Valley including Sydney visitor Spright in the night's feature, the Group One Moir Stakes.

Oliver has a further five rides at Caulfield on Sunday including Grunt in the Group One Underwood Stakes.
