Dean Holland suspended for improper riding

Saturday 29 September 2018, 6:51pm

Victorian jockey Dean Holland will consider an appeal after being banned for improper riding in the Group One Metropolitan at Randwick.

Racing NSW stewards hit Holland with a three-week ban after finding him guilty of directing his mount Miss Admiration in and making contact with Wall Of Fire near the 1200m mark of Saturday's staying race.

Stewards conceded James McDonald on Wall Of Fire did shift out and made initial contact with Holland's mount but ruled for a number of strides after that Holland directed his mount back in, forcing McDonald back in across the heels of Sikandarabad.

Holland's ban is due to start on Wednesday and he can return on October 24.

The last time Holland came to Randwick he left with a one-week suspension and $3000 fine for breaching the whip rules in this year's Sydney Cup on Zacada when beaten in a photo finish.
