Retirement an option for More Strawberries

Friday 24 May 2013, 1:49pm

Golden Slipper placegetter More Strawberries is likely to be retired after suffering a leg injury.

Trainer Kelso Wood said the five-year-old mare injured her leg, which required stitches, in a float mishap on Thursday and won't run in Saturday's Glenlogan Park Stakes.

"It's very disappointing because we put a lot of work into her and she was going really well," Wood said.

"I reckon she'll probably be retired."

More Strawberries won four races when trained by Gai Waterhouse including victories in the Furious Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes at Group Two level in 2010, the same year she finished third to Crystal Lily in the Group One Golden Slipper.

The mare had one start for Wood when she finished 12th to Detours in the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast on May 4.

Wood was preparing More Strawberries for the Group One Stradbroke Handicap and Group One Tatt's Tiara during the winter carnival.
