Truly Discreet after big Flemington prize

Thursday 4 October 2018, 5:01pm

If Truly Discreet can win the Group Two Blazer Stakes at Flemington, the result will revive fond memories for trainer Dan O'Sullivan.

Truly Discreet runs in Saturday's race alongside the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes at the Turnbull Stakes meeting.

At the corresponding meeting in 2000, O'Sullivan prepared So Gorgeous to win the Manifold Stakes, completing a string of black-type races that also included the Quezette Stakes, the Ascot Vale Stakes and the Tranquil Star Stakes.

So Gorgeous carried the lime green colours of South Australian owner-breeder David Peacock and the silks will be worn on Truly Discreet.

O'Sullivan's success with Peacock started in Adelaide and he also prepared Truly Discreet's dam She's Discreet.

Truly Discreet is the last of She's Discreet's 14 foals to make it the racetrack and she is the 13th winner.

Having already gained black type with a placing in the Bendigo Guineas, O'Sullivan's task now is to get a stakes victory.

The ultimate aim is the Group One Myer Classic at Flemington on November 3.

"We have to decide whether to stay on the Myer path or come back a little," O'Sullivan said.

"With David breeding her, the more black type we can get the better.

"She's got black type being placed in the Bendigo Guineas, but a Group Three or a Group Two would certainly be good."

Truly Discreet resumed with a fifth placing behind Tulip at Caulfield on September 22 and stays at 1400m on Saturday.

"She's grown, not as much as what I might have hoped, but her constitution is much better this time in," O'Sullivan said.

"She's handling her work much better.

"She's staying at the 1400 metres but she wen't into her first-up run with only one trial and I think she's made good improvement, but she'll need to have to be competitive in this."
