Avdulla to ride Latrobe in Melbourne Cup

Wednesday 10 October 2018, 6:41pm

Premier Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla will ride Latrobe in the Melbourne Cup for last year's winning trainer Joseph O'Brien.

Avdulla confirmed on social media that he would be riding the Irish Derby winner in next month's $7.5 million race at Flemington.

Latrobe races in the colours of prominent Australian owner Lloyd Williams who won his sixth Melbourne Cup as an owner last year with the O'Brien-trained Rekindling.

Like Rekindling, Latrobe will be a northern hemisphere three-year-old heading into this year's race.

"Very excited to announce I will be partnering up with @JosephOBrien2 and Team Williams in the Melbourne Cup with Irish Derby winner LATROBE," Avdulla posted on Twitter.
