Champagne Boom has led home a one-two Lindsay Park finish to the Listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield.
Co-trainer Ben Hayes said victory in Saturday's race for two-year-olds was the perfect way to start the three-day Caulfield Cup carnival.
"It's always good to get the win early as it takes a bit of pressure off for the rest of the carnival," Hayes said.
"And it's great to win early in the season with your two-year-olds.
"You never know where you are compared to everyone else so it's great to see your horses running like this."
Ridden by Craig Williams, Champagne Boom ($7.50) scored by 2-1/2 lengths from Biscara ($7) with Wedgetail ($7) a short-head away third.
Hayes said the stable may now look to a race up the straight at Flemington on November 6 - Melbourne Cup day.
The training partner was impressed with how Champagne Boom overcame a slow start before going on to victory.
"Craig did the right thing after her slow start in riding her quietly," Hayes said.
"When she got out she was strong through the line.
Hayes said he thought the runner-up Biscara had shown more on the training track but the winner had shown her professionalism in a recent trial outing over the straight at Flemington.
