Last runner for Peter Morgan at Caulfield

Saturday 13 October 2018, 3:23pm

Sircconi wasn't able to send Peter Morgan off with a fairytale win at Caulfield as the trainer has had retirement forced upon him.

Morgan said a set of 'unfortunate circumstances' has led to him training his last runner for the foreseeable future.

Sircconi was sent off the $4.20 favourite in Saturday's Weekend Hussler Stakes before finishing third to Iconoclasm under Linda Meech.

Morgan has been training out of Talwood Park at Whittlesea but said the property was up for sale and in the short-term he's been forced to transfer his horses to John Sadler.

He's hoping the retirement might only be temporary.

"Most of my horses are going to John Sadler and will be there by the end of the week but hopefully I'll still have some involvement," Morgan said.

"I'll still be living on the farm for a little bit and I've got a house in Whittlesea that I'm doing up at the moment."

Morgan has undergone treatment for prostrate cancer and said training horses has kept him busy.

"I've got one more lot of chemo to go but I think I'm alright," Morgan said.

"I have my good days and my bad days and the horses have kept me going.

"I'm getting up at five every morning, doing the work and walking six or seven kilometres a day."

Morgan said he's not trying to let the worry of the sale impede his outlook on life, or his career.

"I'm not stressed about it and I might potter around with a couple out of John's place," Morgan said.

"I've got a couple of two-year-olds that might be alright."
