Turf alliance waits on tax talks outcome

Tuesday 16 October 2018, 3:04pm

The alliance protesting against the treatment of racing by the Queensland government has given officials until Thursday to report positive moves.

After the alliance met with state government ministers and Racing Queensland officials it suspended a threat of industrial action.

The alliance is made up of trainers, jockeys, owners and breeders who have threatened to withdraw their services at from meetings at Doomben on October 27 and November 6 as well as a Townsville meeting.

The threat follows general dissatisfaction with the way racing is treated by the government and in particular the distribution of the new Point of Consumption tax.

On Monday night the alliance sent Racing Queensland asking for an urgent update or it could further consider its position.

"We acknowledge your comments that Racing Queensland has appreciated our patience over the last week since our meeting, and that government has respected our move to put a "hold" on industrial action plans," the letter read.

"We remain optimistic that a satisfactory solution can be achieved and will allow your negotiations to continue without any renewed pressure until this Thursday October."

"At this time we will review our situation and advise our participants of our plans going forward, based on the results of your negotiations."
