Prue's Angel in summer carnival picture

Saturday 20 October 2018, 2:14pm

Black-type races during the summer carnival are back on the table for Prue's Angel after she rediscovered winning form at Doomben.

Jockey Brad Stewart said Prue's Angel has the scope to measure up in stakes races if trainer Tony Gollan steps her up in grade.

"She makes her own luck and against fillies and mares grade I couldn't see why she wouldn't be competitive," Stewart said.

Stewart admitted he was unsure how Prue's Angel would perform at Doomben after failing on a heavy track at her previous outing.

"The last couple of runs were probably a little bit below par for her standard so I didn't really know what to expect," he said.

"She found a good spot in running today and she was able to get away with it."

Prue's Angel ($4.40) was beaten at her previous three starts but bounced back when she gradually overhauled the Ben Currie-trained Mishani Electra ($5) to score by a long head in the Fillies and Mares Class 6 Plate (1050m).

Gollan again proved Currie's nemesis in the following race when consistent sprinter Umberto ($4.40) held off Fomo ($14) to score by a head in the Brisbane Marriott Hotel Handicap (1200m).
