Murphy, Dunn suspended after G1 Manikato

Saturday 27 October 2018, 6:54am

Oisin Murphy will miss the ride on Red Verdon in the Melbourne Cup after being suspended for careless riding on Manikato Stakes runner-up Spirit Of Valor.

The English-based Murphy, who rides Benbatl in Saturday's Cox Plate, and comeback jockey Dylan Dunn were both outed for incidents in Friday night's Group One sprint at Moonee Valley.

Murphy has received the harshest penalty of 15 meetings for careless riding determined to be in the high range.

Racing Victoria stewards found him guilty of allowing Spirit Of Valour to shift in near the 50m mark causing two other horses to be tightened.

Murphy will begin his suspension after next week's Breeders' Cup meeting at Churchill Downs where his rides include star colt Roaring Lion.

Dunn, who has been back riding for a few weeks after retiring because of weight issues, was banned for nine meetings for another incident near the 50m on Jungle Edge.

His suspension commences after he rides at Yarra Valley on Saturday and he returns on November 5.
