Doubt Defying wins Listed Sale Cup

Sunday 28 October 2018, 7:26pm

Queenslander Doubt Defying has won the Listed Sale Cup a few days before his half-brother Sesar's bid for Group One glory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Trained by Steve O'Dea for Aquis Farm, Doubt Defying lived up to his $3.60 favouritism in Sunday's Sale Cup (1600m) to beat Fastnet Tempest ($4) by three-quarters of a length.

"He's made really good improvement in these last couple of preparations this horse," O'Dea told broadcaster racing.com.

"He put together a really good record last prep and to come back and win impressively at Randwick first-up and then come and win this today, I think he's definitely still on an upward spiral."

Doubt Defying was ridden by Michael Walker who has recently signed on as retained rider for Aquis.

The five-year-old gelding won a benchmark race at Randwick on October 6, the same day Sesar claimed the Group Three Roman Consul Stakes (1200m).

Raced by Proven Thoroughbreds, Sesar is set to take his place in Saturday's Coolmore Stud Stakes over the 1200m-straight course at Flemington.
