Waterhouse and Waller buy at English sale

Thursday 1 November 2018, 5:07pm

Sydney trainers Chris Waller and the partnership of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are well and truly caught up in the spring carnival in Melbourne but will each welcome potential contenders for next year after buying at the Tattersalls tried horses sale at Newmarket in England.

Victorian trainers Mike Moroney and Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young were also buyers at the sale through their agents.

Waller's bloodstock advisor, Guy Mulcaster, signed at 240,000 guineas ($A454,000) for Mr Reckless, formerly trained by Jamie Osborne.

"He is exactly the sort of horse we are looking for," Mulcaster said.

"We took a look at him early in the year and have been following his progress and we are delighted to get him.

"The prize money for races that suit him has recently gone up in Sydney, so hopefully we'll have some fun."

Susie McKeever, representing Waterhouse and Bott, paid 250,000 guineas ($A472,000) for Knight Errant, a son of champion So You Think.

"Gai has been such a supporter of this sale and we have usually managed to buy one or two here for her and they have gone on well," McKeever said.

"We bought The Offer here and he went on to win the Group One Sydney Cup."

Jack Regan will head to the Busuttin-Young yard while Buffalo River will go to Mike Moroney after both fetched 180,000 guineas ($340,000).
