On the sixth anniversary of his Melbourne Cup win on Green Moon, Brett Prebble has celebrated a victory on the undercard at Flemington.
Prebble has returned to Australia after 15 years in Hong Kong to be closer to his family and Legend Of Condor, his first winner since coming back, was significant because of the jockey's association with owners, Sun Stud's Cheng family.
"It's been a long time since I rode a winner," Prebble said.
"I've had some time off - a few hurdles to get over - but now I'm back and back in the winner's enclosure.
"Good friends of mine own him
"I enjoy winning and I haven't lost the passion. I've still got the fire burning in the belly."
Trained by Gerald Ryan, Legend Of Condor was a market drifter in Tuesday's Flemington Fling (1000m) after rain caused a track downgrade to heavy.
The Rosehill trainer's foreman son Blake said Prebble had no concerns about Legend Of Condor ($5.50 to $7) handling the conditions despite his two recent defeats in Sydney on heavy ground after the colt held off Feared Eyes ($12) to win by a long neck.
"To get a winner on Melbourne Cup Day for Sun Stud is special," Ryan said.
"The Chengs have got nearly 20 horses at our place and we've got to get results for them and it's just fantastic.
"We were a bit worried when the rain came but when Brett walked out, he said that it wasn't as bad as it was at Randwick the other day, so he was really confident.
"He's a horse that's been his own worst enemy a little bit but Brett gets on really well with him and said instead of going back he would have him where he was happy."
Ryan said there was a chance the colt could run in a 1000m-race at Sandown on Saturday week.
