New Zealand apprentice Chris Dell has been presented with two gilt-edged chances to make an impression on Sydney racing when he rides at Rosehill on Saturday.
In Sydney for two weeks as the winner of an annual scholarship offered by Chris Waller, Dell has two rides for the leading trainer.
One of them, the promising Relaxed And Happy, shares favouritism in the Project Ten Handicap (1200m).
Dell, who has a 3kg city claim, will also ride Firebolt for Waller but his best chance for a city double appears to rest with an "outside" mount on the country-trained She's A Stalker in the Diocesan Development Sprint (1200m).
Previous scholarship winners, Jason Collett and his sister Alysha, have made a name for themselves and Waller expects Dell to do the same.
"Chris is a smart boy who is a nice strong rider with good hands and he seems to have a good future ahead of him," Waller said.
Dell has ridden 63 winners in New Zealand, 14 of them at city level.
His Australian stint steps up on Saturday after two rides on provincial tracks during the week.
"It's the right time of the year for an apprentice to be coming to Sydney with most of the main riders out of town," Waller said.
"I'm sure he will do well for the stable."
Relaxed And Happy is one of four pre-post Rosehill favourites for Waller.
"He's drawn out but if he can jump out and get across I think he'll be hard to beat," Waller said.
The Angela Davies-trained She's A Stalker heads betting after returning to benchmark racing after a last-start Listed placing during the Scone Cup carnival.
An on-pace runner, She's A Stalker will carry 57.5kg after Dell's allowance.
