Right time for Green to tackle Brisbane

Thursday 22 November 2018, 12:50pm

Rockhampton trainer Graeme Green believes a comparison of times gives Master Jamie the chance to continue a proud tradition of central Queensland two-year-olds in Brisbane.

Master Jamie showed his ability when he won his first start at Rockhampton by nearly seven lengths earlier this month.

Green had no hesitation setting Master Jamie for the Two-Year-Old Handicap (1050m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Master Jamie has drawn the outside barrier but Green hopes the horse will have enough early to pace to overcome it.

Rockhampton-trained youngsters have had a good record in Brisbane with winners such as Ascot Bridge, Golf Field, Rash Action and Paradis Imperial.

"We have a lovely big track in Rockhampton and there are a lot of good horses and trainers there," Green said.

"On times Master Jamie should be up to Brisbane class. The frightening thing is he is still learning where to put his feet and his potential is untapped just yet.

"He was eased down in his Rockhampton win. But it was a very good effort because he got stirred up by the wind in the parade ring."

Green picked Master Jamie up for $10,000 at the Magic Millions March Sale.

"I really like his sire Poet's Voice but unfortunately he is no longer with us," he said.

"Master Jamie isn't paid up for the Magic Millions so he can go for a break after this and he should have a really nice horse next year."

Green knows what it takes to win races in Brisbane as he helped his wife Julie train when they were based at Deagon.

"Before that I trained in Grafton and was course manager at Rockhampton," he said.
