Poy steers Jungle Edge to Ballarat victory

Saturday 24 November 2018, 6:59pm

Popular sprinter Jungle Edge has capped his campaign with a front-running win in soft conditions at Ballarat, giving apprentice Michael Poy his first metropolitan victory.

Dropping back in class in Saturday's No Fuss Event Hire Tonks Plate (1200m), proven wet-track specialist Jungle Edge started $3.20 favourite and was too strong in a 1-1/4 length win.

Jungle Edge took his record to 15 wins from 61 starts for his Cranbourne trainer Mick Bell.

Bell said Jungle Edge had taken him on a wonderful ride during his race career and he now plans to give the eight-year-old gelding a spell.

"He's just wonderful this horse," Bell said.

"Even before today he's just been the horse of a lifetime. I just pinch myself all the time, just how good he is.

"I think you could live three or four lifetimes as a little trainer and never get a horse like this.

"He's taken us all around Australia."
