Skytrek fresh for Bernborough Handicap

Thursday 27 December 2018, 5:53pm

A solid barrier trial has noted fresh horse Skytrek ready to cause an upset in the Bernborough Handicap at Doomben on his way to another visit to the Magic Millions carnival.

Skytrek is best known as a stayer and will be having his first start since the Queens Cup over 3200m in July.

He has won three of his six first-up runs and has had a barrier trial to get him ready for the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1600m) on Saturday.

Trainer Barry Lockwood intends to give Skytrek a second chance at the Magic Millions Trophy at the Gold Coast on January 12.

"He finished midfield in it last time but the track was too firm for him," Lockwood said.

"Hopefully there will be some give in the track this time and he will be a chance."

A son of Group One winning mare Sky Cuddle, Skytrek has won eight races for Lockwood after beginning his career with Gai Waterhouse.

"The old horse is going well and he should race well on Saturday,' Lockwood said.
