Godolphin doubles up in MM wildcard stakes

Saturday 29 December 2018, 7:12pm

The Godolphin stable got its second Magic Millions day wildcard when impressive filly Manicure won the Listed Nudgee Stakes at Doomben.

Manicure ($10) sat outside the leader but came away in the straight to beat stablemate Demerara ($4.80) by 1-1/2 lengths.

Godolphin have nine horses in Queensland for the summer carnival and targeted the wildcard races at Doomben on Saturday that give horses the right to race on the big day even if not sold through the Magic Millions sales.

The stable got Tally into the Magic Millions Trophy when he won the Shoot Out Quality earlier in the day.

Manicure can now join him on MIllions day in the $1 million Magic Millions fillies and mares race.

Godolphin Australian manager Vin Cox said Manicure had some strong form earlier this year when she was second to top mare Houtzen in the PJ Bell Stakes at Randwick.

"But she missed the spring with a few setbacks so it was a good effort by the team to get her back to win a Listed race first-up in Queensland," Cox said.

"So it is on to the Magic Millions and she will be improved on today's effort."
