Last year's Blue Diamond Stakes winner Written By has impressed his trainer Grahame Begg with his performance in a jump-out at Caulfield ahead of his return to racing.
The three-year-old colt won his 800m-heat on Tuesday morning with regular jockey Jordan Childs aboard and is scheduled to resume in Saturday week's Listed W J Adams Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.
The Group One Oakleigh Plate (1100m) three weeks later at the same track is the colt's first major target for the preparation.
"He went really well," Begg said.
"He was very sharp. He was very sharp out of the gates and he strode along. He just let him stride a little bit the last 300 metres because he's got to come back and run in ten days time.
"He was really good and his recovery was great.
"Jordan said he felt he was excellent in his action and was much stronger than last preparation."
Written By has not raced since he finished fourth in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at the end of the spring carnival at Flemington.
Begg said the colt had four weeks off and had come to hand quickly.
