A return to his favourite track is expected to offset a drop back in distance and a step up in class for Bergerac at the Sunshine Coast.
Trainer Steve Tregea has no hesitation backing Bergerac up from an Eagle Farm second last week in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m).
Bergerac is a noted big track horse having had six starts for three wins two seconds and a fourth at the Sunshine Coast.
Tregea said Bergerac had pulled up well after being run down over 1600m by Emphasis at Eagle Farm.
"He is a funny horse because he doesn't like other horses coming up on his outside in the straight," Tregea said.
"I am told his final sectionals were among the best of the day and he has certainly done well since.
"He ate up when we got home and he worked well on Tuesday so why not go again."
Apprentice Michael Murphy will be reunited with Bergerac after missing the ride last Saturday when stood down by stewards.
Murphy was tossed to the ground when Pinch Vista broke down in the previous race.
"Michael was very keen to ride Bergerac. After all he used to be a rodeo rider so landing on the Eagle Farm grass might not have been so bad. But the stewards thought otherwise," Tregea said.
Murphy has won a benchmark race at Randwick and the Listed Bernborough Stakes on Bergerac.
