KIlcoy Race Club to take higher profile

Wednesday 6 February 2019, 10:52am

The Kilcoy Race Club hopes to take a higher profile on the TAB circuit after the announcement it will receive a near $1 million facelift.

The club will receive $553,554 from the Somerset Regional Council and $369,050 from the state government for infrastructure improvements.

Funds will manly be spent on improving public spectator facilities.

Kilcoy, Beaudesert and Esk were the original Friday circuit clubs in southeast Queensland.

Despite being successful they were pushed aside by other clubs about 20 years ago.

However, in recent years Kilcoy and Beaudesert have rebuilt their profile and are regulars on the week day TAB circuit.

Beaudesert also holds several stand alone weekend and public holiday TAB meetings.

For the first time Kilcoy was the stand alone TAB meeting on the Sunday of the recent Australia Day weekend and is keen to get more.

Club stalwart Con Seattle the club had worked hard on improving its track and now could upgrade infrastructure.

Racing minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the club now had the chance to attract bigger crowds and improve its financial position.
