Speedy Gold Coast galloper Wudang Blade ended a frustrating run of minor placings when he won at Doomben after the short priced favourite Basara bungled the start.
Wudang Blade ($8.50) had run four minor placings and a fourth since his last win in June but showed his normal early pace and then fought on to win .
Trainer Marcus Wilson was in Sydney on Wednesday but winning jockey Michael Cahill said Wudang Blade had shown plenty of heart.
"That's the fourth time I have won on him and I think there is still a couple more in him," Cahill said.
Basara($2.05) reared as the barriers opened and jockey Clayton Gallagher effectively retired her from the race.
After stewards took evidence from Gallagher and barrier staff they declared Basara had got a fair start.
Wudang Blade wasn't the only horse to end a frustrating run of minor placings.
Rabbit Hunter ($9) ended a run of six minor placings to run down favourite McKinlay Miss ($1.80).
"Rabbit Hunter has been just so frustrating. Even today he did things wrong. But the once the penny drops he will be a good horse," trainer Stu Kendrick said.
Expensive gelding Peppi La Few finally repaid the patience of trainer Liam Birchley and punters when he won over 1350m
Peppi La Few started a short-priced favourite for the fifth time in his 10-race career when he powered home to add a win to his previous six minor placings.
By top sire Pierro, Peppi La Few was sold for $200,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Sales and Birchley said he hoped the win would give the horse the confidence.
"Maybe I made a mistake keeping him at 1200m before today. But really he should have won a couple of his starts at 1200m," Birchley said.
