Big Mile races the dream for Thompson

Friday 15 February 2019, 3:12pm

Having dipped his toe in the water during the Melbourne spring carnival, the late-blooming Dreamforce is poised to continue his rise through the grades when he resumes at Randwick.

The lightly-raced six-year-old tackles Saturday's Group Three Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) against the likes of experienced campaigner Dothraki, last year's winner Kaepernick and undefeated three-year-old Brutal.

Trainer John Thompson says Dreamforce appears to have flourished from the experience of his first interstate trip in November when he won the Group Trhee Chatham Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

"He has done very well since he's come back so I've got to say - and I don't know yet until he races - but the early signs are good," Thompson said.

"He's come back in good shape and he trialled really well the other day.

"It's probably a bit short of his best distance on Saturday but he's won first-up before over 1100 so you never know."

Out of dual Group One-winning mare Eskimo Queen, who earlier this week produced impressive Warwick Farm two-year-old winner Deep Chill, Dreamforce has been patiently managed.

He holds nominations for the Group One Doncaster Mile and the All Star Mile with Thompson keen to keep his options open.

The Randwick trainer will also saddle up Reneged in the Hurun Report Cup (2400m) and expects the gelding to be ready to produce his best after three runs from a spell.

"He keeps running like he wants further, he gets it on Saturday and he gets a good draw," Thompson said.

"We were hoping for a bit of rain and it's not looking likely, but the horse is in good order."
