Six rivals for Winx in Chipping Norton

Wednesday 27 February 2019, 11:11am

Happy Clapper will be the only horse from outside the Chris Waller stable to run against Winx in the Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick.

The champion will have six rivals as she bids to extend her winning streak to 31 and her Group One tally to 23 and she will jump from barrier four.

The other five are Australian Oaks winner Unforgotten, dual Group One winner Egg Tart, Metropolitan Handicap winner Patrick Erin and runner-up Brimham Rocks and durable stayer Libran.

The Pat Webster-trained Happy Clapper finished second to Winx for the fourth time when they met in the Group Two Apollo Stakes last Saturday week.

If Winx is successful in Saturday's Chipping Norton (1600m) she will join Tie The Knot as a four-time winner of the race.

In contrast, a capacity field of 14 plus two emergencies has been declared for the Group One Surround Stakes (1400m) for three-year-old fillies.

Group One winners El Dorado Dreaming, Seabrook and Oohood head the field.

Trainer Kris Lees has had mixed fortunes with the barrier draws with El Dorado Dreaming to start from gate one and Frankel filly Miss Fabulass from the outside.

The Randwick meeting also features two qualifying races for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper with eight runners in the Skyline Stakes for colts and geldings and 12 in the Sweet Embrace Stakes for fillies.
