Tiny La Tene too strong in Sires' Produce

Saturday 9 March 2019, 3:56pm

Godolphin's success with it's strong brigade of two-year-olds has continued with La Tene winning the Sires' Produce Stakes at Flemington.

The global giant won Victoria's major two-year-old race, the Blue Diamond Stakes, with Lyre for Anthony Freedman while earlier on Saturday Tenley boosted their Golden Slipper stocks with victory for James Cummings in the Reisling Stakes at Randwick.

Cummings' Melbourne assistant Kate Grimswade said it was a big thrill for the stable to win Saturday's Group Two race with La Tene.

"We adore her," Grimswade said.

"Her win at Sandown was a big thrill for me but this is even bigger."

Ridden by Dwayne Dunn, La Tene ($12) scored a short-neck win from the $3.80 favourite Dalasan with Fling ($31) a neck away third.

Grimswade was unsure of plans for the filly adding Cummings will work out a plan.

"She was placed at her first three starts," Grimswade said.

"We didn't think she was going to be Group quality but she's kept on improving, so the sky's the limit."

Dunn said every time the stable has asked a bit more of the filly she's stepped up.

He said the filly might not be out of place heading to Sydney for a tougher assignment after Saturday's win.

"Last start she had to fight them off and today she got it a bit easier but she was up in grade," Dunn said.

"We thought Adelaide might have been where she could get her black type, but the step up today was a big step forward for her.

"Maybe James will take her to Sydney as she's done everything asked of her down here.

"It would be a big step forward, but she's done that today."
