Vic apprentice coach heading to Singapore

Thursday 28 March 2019, 4:14pm

One of Racing Victoria's apprentice jockey coaches has been lured to Singapore to take up a similar role.

Matt Pumpa, along with former champion jockey Darren Gauci, is one of two coaches employed by RV to teach the upcoming brigade of younger riders in Victoria.

A Group One-winning rider, Pumpa rode around 600 winners before a hip injury forced his retirement in 2014.

The same year he took up a position with RV under the Apprentice Jockey Training Program.

Pumpa, who rode with success in Singapore during 2005 and 2007, visited Singapore last August conducting a workshop for apprentice and claiming riders.

He is set to start his new role in Singapore in May.
