Inquiries into Rocky/Toowoomba errors

Sunday 7 April 2019, 10:05am

The investigation into the wrong horse starting in the wrong race at Rockhampton is yet to be completed 10 days after the event.

And another review will begin on Monday about how the wrong fourth placegetter was declared in the last race at Toowoomba on Saturday.

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission announced an independent investigation after Plain 'N' Simple ran in the sixth race at Rockhampton as stablemate Authadane, who was then scratched before he could also run.

Trainer Julieann Lancaster has pleaded guilty to a negligence charge over the mistake but has not been sentenced.

QRIC investigators were in Rockhampton last week interviewing various industry participants.

"The result will be made public as soon as resolved," a QRIC spokesperson said.

Rockhampton has not had a chief steward for several months although it is understood an appointment to the position will be announced soon.

The Rockhampton incident was central to an attack on QRIC by state opposition racing spokesman John Paul Langbroek.

He launched into QRIC twice in parliament last week indicating if the coalition took power it would dismantle QRIC which he said cost $24 million a year.

The Queensland Racing Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said there was a review of QRIC and how the time being taken for appeals could be shortened.

At Toowoomba on Saturday Curdled was declared as running fourth in the last race when in fact Cool Drafts had run fourth.

Curdled, who carried saddlecloth No.5, finished eighth on the fence while Cool Drafts, No.15, was out wide.

Betting agencies paid on Curdled being fourth as weight was declared before stewards discovered the mistake.

Stewards have asked for a review of the practices of the Toowoomba judges,
