Kah in prime position for Winx's farewell

Thursday 11 April 2019, 4:01pm

Jockey Jamie Kah will be one of the privileged few to get close to Winx when she races for the final time in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

Kah rides Harlem with the Australian Cup winner to start from barrier eight with Winx on the outside in the nine-horse field.

Saturday's race will be Kah's first time against the champion and one of the few times she has seen her in the flesh.

"I saw her at the Cox Plate a couple of years ago," Kah said.

"People would be paying a lot of money to be in my position sitting next to her in the gates.

"It's a weird feeling. I'm actually a little bit nervous to be going out there but it's going to be pretty special to be that close to her.

"It's pretty exciting to be a part of history."

Kah will be riding for the first time at Randwick and also has rides in two other Group One features, Midterm in the Sydney Cup and Miss Siska in the Coolmore Legacy.

Harlem has not started since winning the Australian Cup on March 9.

Kah said wet tracks forced Harlem to miss a couple of potential runs on the way towards the Queen Elizabeth but said the horse was working well.

"He's going as good as he can be and had a trial last week to make sure he was on top fitness-wise," Kah said.

"He's a funny old horse and it will be interesting to see what he brings out on Saturday."

Midterm gave Kah her first Sydney win when successful in the Manion Cup on March 23 at Rosehill and she is looking forward to riding the stayer on Saturday.

"He's got a nice light weight and if he can get the same run as he got last start he'll be pretty well in it," she said.

Kah reunites with Miss Siska having ridden the mare in Adelaide when she was prepared by Tony McEvoy before joining Grahame Begg this campaign.

"She's a nice horse on her day. She's drawn lovely as well and I'm looking forward to riding her again," Kah said.

"It's great to have three Group One rides on what is going to be a special day."
