Two-year-old Super Seth will be out to back up an impressive debut win when he makes his first city appearance at Caulfield.
The Anthony Freedman-trained colt showed his raw talent with a six-length win in a Ballarat maiden on March 24 and he stays at 1200m for his second start in Saturday's Ern Jensen Funerals Handicap.
"He did a really good job on debut and he's a really nice colt going forward," Freedman's son and assistant trainer, Sam Freedman, said.
"He's shown above average ability and just at the moment we're really teaching him about the game.
"He still does a little bit wrong and is still a little bit keen, but he has got very good raw ability. Once we can harness it, hopefully he can end up a really nice horse."
To be ridden by Clayton Douglas, Super Seth is the short-priced favourite in a field which has been reduced to 11 runners with scratchings.
Freedman said Super Seth had ticked all the boxes going into his next assignment.
"I think from an inside gate tomorrow he should get some nice cover and will need quite a bit of luck, especially with the rail out a bit," Freedman said.
"Tomorrow is a bit of a tricky speed map for him but we've got no doubt he's one of the better horses in the race. And with even luck he can hopefully be hard to beat."
By Dundeel out of Salutations, Super Seth is a half-brother to stakes-winning three-year-old Wild Planet and Freedman said the colt had already done a good job this preparation to get to the races and win.
The Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington is a potential target while a Queensland trip is also an option.
"We'll really be guided by how he goes tomorrow and then make a decision from there," Freedman said.
Freedman said fellow two-year-old colt Chenier had recovered well from his second at Sandown on Wednesday when he was beaten as odds-on favourite.
Despite the defeat, Chenier remains high up in markets for Saturday week's Group One Champagne Stakes (1600m).
"He licked the bin and was quite fresh out on the track this morning," Freedman said.
"Anthony is just mulling over plans with him. We'll probably make a decision with him on Sunday or Monday."
