Expensive day for Jag Guthmann-Chester

Thursday 25 April 2019, 8:12am

Jag Guthmann-Chester's bid to win back-to-back metropolitan Brisbane apprentice titles has hit a snag after he was suspended on a careless riding charge at Ipswich.

The senior metropolitan title is already clear-cut with Jeff Lloyd on 73 winners and is well on his way to riding 100 for the third year in a row.

The junior title is wide open with Guthmann-Chester, who won last season, on 25 and one in front of Baylee Nothdurft on 24.

Clayton Gallagher (18) and Jackson Murphy (17) are still in the race with three months to go.

Guthmann-Chester was suspended for eight meetings after causing interference in the fifth race on Thursday.

It was an expensive day for the Gold Coast-based apprentice as he was also fined $200 for being overweight in another race.

To add to his woes he was fined a further $200 for posting material on a social media site, which in the stewards' opinion was obscene or defamatory towards the Racing Queensland Training Department.

Guthmann-Chester can seek an internal review on all decisions.
