Santa Ana Lane draws outside in HK Sprint

Friday 26 April 2019, 7:26am

Australia's Santa Ana Lane has drawn the outside barrier in a field of 10 for his assignment in the Chairman's Sprint Prize in Hong Kong.

The Anthony Freedman-trained gelding is one of the leading contenders for Sunday's 1200m-Group One sprint with Australia's other representative Viddora to start from seven.

Viddora is still being monitored after she was found to be lame in a hind leg earlier this week.

But all is well with Santa Ana Lane with assistant trainer Sam Freedman happy with the the preparation and the draw.

"Better ten than one," Freedman told the HK Jockey Club.

"It'll let him get into a nice rhythm and space to breathe.

"The draw doesn't really matter given his racing style and the relatively small field."

The last-start winner of the TJ Smith Stakes, Santa Ana Lane will be ridden by Hugh Bowman who replaces the suspended Mark Zahra.

New Zealander Enzo's Lad, the winner of the past two Telegraph Handicaps, will start from gate two.
