Nechita has been a Group One star for trainer John Thompson but it was Peron who held bragging rights in the early stages of their careers.
When Thompson was preparing his 2011 yearling draft he regularly worked Peron alongside Nechita and Sookie and the results were conclusive, if somewhat surprising.
"They came up together through the ranks and whenever we galloped them against each other Peron was always the standout of the three," Thompson said.
"Even this campaign she's been very dominant over Sookie when they've worked together probably two dozen times."
While Nechita won the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes last November and Sookie took out the Group Three Glenlogan Park Stakes on May 25, Peron is competing in black-type company for the first time in Saturday's Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich.
"It's good to actually get her into a race like this so she can show her wares because she's been on the fringe as an emergency and missed out a few times," Thompson said.
"Last year we had Pear Tart who won the Guineas and Tiara off the back of a Wednesday win but this year Peron hasn't been able to get into races because she hasn't won enough prize money."
Thompson thinks the prospect of a wet track is a concern for Peron.
"She can let go with a great turn of foot on top of the ground but a wet track just takes away from her brilliance," he said.
If Peron wins the Waterhouse, Thompson will give serious thought to backing her up a week later in the Group One Tatt's Tiara.
