King makes instant impact in riding return

Saturday 27 April 2019, 4:01pm

Rachel King has continued her successful comeback from injury with a Listed win aboard Godolphin's Intuition in the Hawkesbury Rush.

Last season's champion Sydney apprentice, King claimed her first Group One win aboard Maid Of Heaven in the Spring Champion Stakes but missed most of the autumn carnival when she broke her collarbone in a multiple horse fall at Tamworth on March 10.

She returned on Thursday, winning aboard the front-running Romantic Whisper at Randwick for her former bosses Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

King is known for being able to rate horses in front but showed her versatility on Saturday when Intuition ($8) was last out of the barriers for the 1100m-dash from his wide barrier.

Once in the straight, King steered him through a gap and he surged through to beat the favourite Tactical Advantage ($2.25) with a short half head to Badajoz ($14) in a busy finish.

Godolphin representative Darren Beadman praised King's ride while she in turn thanked the team for sticking by her.

"To put me on shows they have trust in me," King said.

"I have to thank them for sticking by me.

"He is a beautiful horse to ride and he was brave. He found his way through the gaps."

Intuition has won his past three starts and Beadman said trainer James Cummings would now look at options including the Brisbane winter carnival.
