Upgrade for Queensland drug testing unit

Wednesday 1 May 2019, 11:49am

Queensland's racing laboratory has increased its capabilities to test for a wider range of substances after a major upgrade.

The Racing Science Centre laboratory has undergone a major refurbishment to modernise infrastructure and facilitate future growth.

In a media release Queensland Racing Integrity Commission boss Ross Barnett said a range of high-tech analytical chemistry instruments was donated to Queensland universities to help train the next generation of racing scientists.

"It was to make way for the acquisition of the latest equipment to test for a growing range of prohibited substances regulated under the national rules of racing across racing codes," he said..

The next stage of the Racing Science Centre upgrade has just been completed, with the improvement of three testing instrumentation rooms.

"The Racing Science Centre is now an even more efficient and capable facility," Barnett said.
