Racing Qld refuses Currie stable entries

Wednesday 1 May 2019, 12:04pm

Racing Queensland has invoked a new rule to refuse controversial trainer Ben Currie's nominations for weekend racing.

Currie is facing 42 allegations dating back to April last year involving an array of different charges.

None of the allegations have been resolved in a series of hearings and inquiries.

Racing Queensland refused his nominations under the revamped AR 55 which was changed in March.

In a media release, a Racing Queensland spokesman said it was RQ's role to manage and operate codes of racing in a way that ensured public confidence in the racing industry in Queensland.

"In taking this action, RQ makes no judgment in relation to the allegations made by the independent Queensland Racing Integrity Commission against Mr Currie," the spokeman said in a statement.

RQ has not made any decision about other nominations Currie might make in the future and they will be considered at the relevant time in the circumstances that prevail then.

Currie's barrister Jim Murdoch said he could not comment until he conferred with other members of the trainer's legal team.
