Consistent mare River Racer could miss part of the winter carnival to head to Sydney after her barnstorming win at Doomben.
River Racer ($6) charged home down the middle of the track to beat Awake The Stars ($7.50) by 1-1/4 lengths with 1-1/4 lengths to Prue's Angel ($7.50) third in the Valmont Coatings Handicap (1200m).
The mare has always been regarded as being consistent without winning, having run 10 minor placings and recording three wins at her previous starts.
However, Saturday was her second win at her past three starts.
Trainer Les Ross said it could easily be three from three as River Racer had received interference when unplaced at Eagle Farm at her previous start.
"She got a bump on the corner and that threw her off stride in that race," Ross said.
"I am thinking about sneaking down to Sydney with her where it should be a bit easier this time of the year
"But there might also be something easier for her later in the winter."
Jockey Robbie Fradd has built up a good relationship with River Racer winning three times from 10 rides.
"She appreciates the pace being on and she got that today," Fradd said.
