Damian Lane wins Japanese Group One

Sunday 12 May 2019, 5:51pm

Australian jockey Damian Lane has capped a big weekend in Japan with a Group One win aboard Normcore in the Victoria Mile at Tokyo Racecourse.

Lane rode four winners on Saturday including Tower Of London in the Group Two Spring Cup and continued the form on Sunday with a victory in a support race before his feature success.

The rider is on a short-term contract with the Japan Racing Association and has another month to go.

Normcore had a neck to spare over Primo Scene, a four-year-old daughter of Australian Group One-winning filly Mosheen.

"It's a big thrill," Lane told Japanese media through an interpreter.

"I've been very privileged to be given the contract by the JRA and it's a big thrill with my first Group One win outside Australia.

"I'm very happy."

Lane's other big wins this season include the Golden Slipper on Godolphin filly Kiamichi.
